Meet Kenneth: Kidney Cancer Survivor

Meet Kenneth: Kidney Cancer Survivor

By Admin at 29 Mar 2017, 12:25 PM

In honor of Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, we are spotlighting the courageous journey of cancer survivor, Kenneth Monarrez, and his choice to help others overcome cancer by participating in a clinical trial.

Kenneth's journey began on New Year's Day in 2013, when he was first diagnosed with stage 3 kidney cancer. With his wife seven months pregnant, Kenneth was determined to learn as much about his cancer as possible — to defeat it.

Kenneth's passion for process and information gathering led him to join a clinical study. While participating in the study, doctors discovered another tumor in Kenneth's brain. In spite of this news, Kenneth remained optimistic and believed the outcome would be positive:

Kenneths' Journey

"I knew I had cancer three years ago. This is my opportunity to do something about it to help other people. If by participating in research they can develop cutting-edge treatments and non-invasive procedures to help other kidney cancer patients, I was all in."

Ultimately, Kenneth's interest in research and desire to give back led him to Gateway for Cancer Research. As Co-Chair of Gateway's Associates Board, Kenneth inspires and provides hope to other cancer fighters as he fuels Gateway's mission to fund meaningful and breakthrough clinical trials worldwide that help people living with cancer to feel better, live longer and conquer cancer TODAY!
