Gateway Invests in Breakthrough Research that is Both Targeted and Precise

Most cancer drugs do not receive a positive response from the majority of patients due to unique genetics and differences among individuals. With the level of genetic and cell protein data now available, Gateway invests in therapies targeted to the specific biology, characteristics and environment of each patient.

Meet Gateway-Funded Researcher, Dr. Christopher Cogle

Dr. Cogle and his team are using sophisticated computer programs to sort through the DNA variables (cancer maps) and match the patients with unique chemotherapy combinations. Using a new sensitive tool called a digital droplet PCR, they can quickly monitor the patient’s tumor DNA without needing bone marrow aspirations.

This study will compare bone marrow cancer patients who receive the standard of care therapy or biologically assigned individualized care. If successful, it will establish a new precision cancer program that could extend the survival rates of patients with bone marrow cancer and alter the way genetically complex cancers are treated.
