February 4 is World Cancer Day, a day to unite the globe in the fight against cancer. By raising awareness, open conversations can be started to encourage governments and individuals to take action against this disease.
World Cancer Day’s motto is “We Can. I Can,” and explores how everyone – as a collective or as individuals – can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
It’s estimated that by 2025, there could be 19.3 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year along with 11.5 million deaths. With increased attention and action, however, it’s possible to stop this upward trend.
At Gateway, collaboration is key to achieving our mission to fund meaningful and breakthrough clinical trials worldwide that help people living with cancer to feel better, live longer and conquer cancer TODAY! On World Cancer Day, we are grateful for your support. Together, we continue to make great strides in the fight against some of today's most deadly cancers.
As recently cited in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine, and highlighted in TIME and other major news sources, a Gateway-funded trial is making big news for breakthrough success in brain cancer.
For the first time, researchers have successfully used a form of immunotherapy, which harnesses a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer, to treat an aggressive type of brain tumor called glioblastoma. Read more about this exciting outcome and its potential impact for others battling aggressive brain cancer here
On February 4, take a minute to talk with your friends and loved ones about cancer or get involved in a local World Cancer Day activity. Also, make World Cancer Day a day that you, as an individual, make a change to reduce your own risk of cancer. You might commit to daily walks or a healthier diet or make an appointment for an appropriate cancer screening. You can also make a donation to your favorite cancer charity!
At Gateway, we make sure your tax-deductible donation is invested in research that makes a difference in cancer patients' lives now and in the future. Because our expenses are underwritten, 99 cents of every dollar Gateway receives directly funds human cancer clinical trials to help improve patient outcomes and preserve quality of life.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this post with family and friends. With your help, we can shape a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared.
