As we get ready to ring in the New Year, a donation to Gateway is an easy way to make a significant impact in the lives of cancer patients – TODAY.

25 Years of Impacting Cancer Care

Over the past 25 years, Gateway has provided millions of dollars of funding for over 150 clinical trials and treated over 3000 patients, in all types of cancer. Here are some of our many achievements:

• A Gateway funded study was among the first to use inhalation therapy to deliver molecular therapy directly to metastatic lung cancer. 
  
  
• Researchers funded by Gateway created a DNA vaccine targeting a breast cancer antigen which was demonstrated to be safe and to increase patients' immune response. The study concluded that once patients completed conventional therapies, the vaccine could possibly stimulate the immune system to attack remaining or new cancer cells.
  
  
• A recent Gateway funded pediatric clinical trial has potentially saved the lives of seven children with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Children with AML typically experience high relapse rates because as their cancer progresses, specific genes are suppressed therefore they become less responsive to treatment.
  
  
• A Gateway-funded clinical trial investigated the use of a drug to aid in the surgical removal of brain cancer in children. Tumor Paint helps identify cancer sites for improved removal of tumors while decreasing the risk of removing precious healthy brain tissue. This "molecular flashlight" has the potential to revolutionize surgical oncology. Given its early promise, researchers are planning a larger study to take Tumor Paint all the way to the FDA.
  
  

Greater Impact via Collaboration

Currently, Gateway is funding 55 clinical trials throughout the U.S. at nearly all the major cancer centers, as well as around the world. We’re also expanding our efforts in childhood cancer research by solely funding 10 pediatric trials and co-funding 13 more.

By leveraging the investments, expertise, and knowledge base of a wider spectrum of academic and industry experts, Gateway enables a larger scale of impact than any one foundation can accomplish alone.
